LIFE IS AWESOME!!!
SHAPE Camp's first trip across New York State on the Erie Canal Ride to promote healthy active living is off to a great start. Our mission is promote healthy eating and exercise habits in young people to help them avoid the impacts of obesity, diabetes and sedentary living.
By promoting exciting active involvement in life-long sports, young people can lead eachother and help be part of a movement that reverses the trend of childhood obesity and diabetes.
Getting from Albany to Buffalo took a few hours less than building the Erie Canal, but it was worth it!!!
Fifteen adventurers and bikes, two SUVs with trailers and equipment in tow, five tents, two coolers, and lots of positive energy!
The trip from Averill Park to Niagara Falls went quickly. We had gender separation as we drove across New York State! The guys drove with me and the gals drove with Coach Kathy.
Our bike trailer and SAG Wagon drew lots of attention on the highway. We were the focus of several cameras along the way and lots of funny looks too.
We finally arrived in Niagara Falls (American Falls)and several of our athletes had never been there before so it was very cool to share it with all of them.
We finished off the day with a great Italian meal at DeFlippo's in Lockport. After a night in the comfort of the Holiday Inn, we're off on our adventure! We'll be backtracking to the Niagara River and the start of the Erie Canal in Tonawanda in the morning. Great weather, great views and great memories, here we come!
Oh! And the tooth fairy is going to have to hunt down Ruby somewhere along the way- does she know how to find a kid in a tent?
Have an awesome (and safe) trip! Hoping you have wifi every night so you can keep us updated :-)
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're blogging this! Sounds like you are off to a fantastic start.
ReplyDeletePlease let Ruby know that the tooth fairy has found Maya in tents and other unusual circumstances before, they seem to have a well functioning tracking system.
Ride on!
